Caring and Commitment in Action

About Our Chapter

Assistance League East Valley, works with community agencies and schools to provide help to needy children and adults. We are a recognized 501(c)3 nonprofit organization of dedicated and enthusiastic volunteers with no paid employees. In 2008-2009 127 members and 25 community volunteers contributed more than 26,000 service hours enabling us to touch the lives of more than 9,000 men, women and children..

Our chapter assesses the unmet needs of the community and addresses these needs through its programs, which are evaluated annually and adjusted when necessary. The funds to support these philanthropic programs are raised through major fundraising events; individual, corporate and foundation support. The funds raised are returned to Mesa, Tempe, Chandler, Gilbert, Scottsdale and Ahwatukee communities of the East Valley, through five philanthropic programs, Operation School Bell®, Assault Survivor Kits®, Adult Day Care Socials, Adopt-A-School and Scholarships.

History

Assistance League East Valley, is a nonprofit, charitable organization committed to volunteer service in the community. The chapter originated as Assistance Guild of East Valley on May 25, 1989. Our first philanthropic program, Operation School Bell was started September, 1989. As other programs were added, membership increased, and when our membership reached 60 in September, 1995, National Assistance League granted us chapter status.

We were chartered as the ninety-fourth chapter in November, 1995.

Other programs begun are:

  • Assault Survivor Kits, May 1995
  • Senior Birthday Parties, January 1998
  • Adopt-a-School, January 1999
  • Scholarship, 2001.

Assistance League East Valley now has 135 members, and in 2002 opened a Thrift Store as a major fundraiser for our philanthropic programs.
